What’s That Sound?!

Dogs dressed up as ghosts

Halloween is almost upon us, and at Morris Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, we like to celebrate all month long. Celebrate with us as we go over all of those random and unexplained bumps in the night. Was it a character from one of your favorite horror films come to life? Or maybe just a creepy critter?

Either way, it’s sure to leave your skin crawling!

Creepy Crawly Critters

Did you hear a pitter-patter of tiny feet scurrying above your head last night as you were trying to fall asleep? Maybe that scurry made its way into your dreams, quickly turning them into nightmares. What could have caused such a sound?

More likely than not, you have a pest infestation. Plenty of animals love to call your air ducts, attic, and roof home as well, including rats, mice, snakes, squirrels, and even birds! Not only will this infestation keep you at night, but it can also cause a lot of damage to your home’s HVAC system.

If the animals are nestled in your air ducts or attic, they’re likely going to chew their way through some of your ductwork or any electrical cables you have lying around. Additionally, any droppings they leave behind can be toxic if not cleaned up quickly.

One way to eliminate this hazard is by ditching the air ducts altogether. A ductless heating and cooling system is just as effective and even more efficient than its standard counterparts. Contact us today to learn more about your ductless options!

Was That a Hammer?

We’ve all heard the horror story or seen the scary movie where the murderer breaks into the house using a tool like an ax or a hammer. But if you hear a loud bang or rumble, you’re probably not going to be met with doom and gloom. Instead, it’s likely that your home is suffering from what we call water hammer.

Water hammer can be quite a disturbing predicament, as it’s incredibly loud. What is it exactly? Good question. Water hammer is caused by a sudden shift in pressure in your pipes when a faucet, valve, or appliance is shut off. As the water tries to redirect quickly, it bangs into your pipe walls, making a distinct hammering noise. Additionally, if you have pipes that are housed close together, sometimes pipes will bang against one another, causing additional noise.

To put an end to this torment, call a professional right away. There are a few different solutions we can explore, depending on the circumstance.

A Shocking Revelation

Does it feel like there’s electricity running through the air? Or maybe you can hear a soft, consistent buzzing sound? Either of these could signal a major issue with the electrical system in your house.

An outdated electrical panel is inconvenient and dangerous. Not only could it cause unexpected blackouts, but malfunctioning electrical panels are one of the leading causes of residential fires in the United States. Avoid this electric situation by having inspections performed on your home’s electrical system and replacing any old or malfunctioning equipment right away!

Don’t suffer through another sleepless night! If you’re consistently kept up at night by spooky sounds or disturbances, call the ghostbusters at Morris Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning. We’ll quickly figure out which ghosts and ghouls are disturbing your home and put an end to their reign of torture.
