Electricians determine this by doing an electrical load calculation.

Here is what this calculation takes into consideration:

  • Square footage of your house
  • Number of electrical appliances (dishwasher, microwave, garbage disposal etc.)

After finishing their calculations, an electrician will then determine if your home has a 100amp service, 200amp service, or something higher or lower than that. If your home has a 100amp service, it is unlikely that an EV charger will work. In this instance, you will require an electrical service upgrade to accommodate the addition of a charging station.

• Level 1 EV Chargers: This is typically a residential unit that runs off standard 120V AC power. You can plug these units right into the wall of your garage. Charging time can take up to 12 hours.
